Zinc Die casting Finishes

One of the most attractive qualities of zinc die castings is their ready acceptance of a wide range of finishes. Finishes can bring three advantages:-

  1. Provide high quality decorative finish
  2. Increase corrosion resistance
  3. Improve wear resistance
Chemical Finishes Properties
Chromate & Passivate Low cost corrosion protection (clear, gold, olive drab)
Phosphates Non-conductive pre-coat for organic finishes
Anodising Excellent corrosion and wear resistance
Antique Finish Decorative appearance, oxidising of metallic finishes - copper, brass
PTFE Sprayed on finish with excellent wear and protection
Metallic Finishes Properties
Brass Decorative finish, can be lacquered for durability
Cadmium Excellent corrosion resistance, good appearance
Chromium Bright with very good corrosion and wear resistance, high quality bright finish
Black Very good with decorative, corrosion and wear resistance
Hard chrome Excellent wear resistance - hardness 850 - 1100 H
Copper Decorative finish
Gold Decorative finish
Nickel Decorative finish, fair corrosion resistance and durability
Silver Decorative finish, high resistance to many chemical and foodstuffs
Tin Good corrosion resistance, easily soldered
Zinc & Passivate Good corrosion resistance, decorative bright appearance at low cost
Organic Finishes Properties
Deltatone Excellent corrosion resistance, up to 1000 hours Salt Spray, black or silver
Deltaseal Good corrosion resistance, available in a range of colours
Eletrophoretic Good corrosion resistance, decorative finish
Lacquer Good corrosion and wear resistance, decorative finish in many colours
Albrufin Decorative lacquer, brass and gold coloured, good general resistance
Paints Acrylic Good outdoor durability, chemical and heat resistant, requires a primer
Epoxy Good corrosion resistance, widely used, often primer coat, avoid sunlight
Polyester High gloss appearance, resists weathering, with good hardness
Polyurethane Good chemical and wear resistance, gives high colour retention
