Unit Tools - Pay for the Inserts and not the Whole Tool

Tooling inserts offer you, the customer, an alternative to purchasing a full zinc diecasting tool.

Advantages:

  • Lower cost tooling – you only pay for the insert, cavity detail and ejector plate.
  • Quicker tooling lead times – no unnecessary cost for tooling bolster design and build.
  • Lower product cost – 15 minute production set-up cost, ideal for smaller batches.

Disadvantages:

  • Diecasting size – Some diecastings are too large in some or all of their dimensions to fit into a unit insert.
  • Ownership – Although our Customers own the unit insert it is not a full tool and cannot be run without a bolster.
  • Quality – Some zinc diecastings requiring an exceptionally high surface finish are better suited to their own full tool. The runner design and gating position can then be specifically designed to ensure the requirements are achieved.
  • High Volume – Zinc diecastings produced in large numbers are better suited to their own full tools of multi-impressions. Particularly where the castings are greater than 30 grammes.
  • Long cores – Some zinc diecastings have long cored sections that are better suited to a full tool designed specifically for withdrawing long cores or deep recesses. There may not be the physical space available to produce the product using a unit insert.
