Despite the current economic gloom of disappearing sales and frequent losses PMS has been able to buck the trend posting a record months for profits in July and maintaining profitabilty during this difficult period. With over £1,000,000 of new business won in the last 12 months PMS is still running on a 2 shift rota and we are planning further purchases of new diecasting machines to maintain available capacity as we approach our busy periods from February to June.
Reasons for success have been the following:
- Re-evaluation of the customer base and removing unprofitable jobs
- Shutting down the in-house bulk melter and sending all sprue/runner waste to Brock Metal for Toll Melting
- Working with customers such as Assa Abloy to introduce a Supplier Development Program eliminating waste
- Improving efficiencies of secondary operation - which are totally necessary !!
- Developing internal thread forming during the casting process
- Setting strategies for each work cell
- Managing Director hosts a “Typical Brits Abroard” Fancy Dress Party for PMS Staff and Friends - this didn’t actually make us more profitable but we did have a good time.
And the winner of the best outfit is Jim Muirhead in his original British shorts that he still has from the age of 16 ! Well done Jim !
