Andrew Millard graguates with his HNC in November 2008. He started the course in Septmeber 2006 has has spent many hours at the weekend preparing assignments.
Andrew has now started his MSc in Leadership in Manufacturing at Leed University which will take 3 years to complete - he just can’t get enough !
Executive MSc in
Manufacturing Leadership
The programme involves the completion of four core modules in the first year and four specialist modules in the second year. Each module will be delivered in two separate two-day teaching periods comprising 30 hours contact time.
Year 1 Core Modules
Leadership and Change
This module will apply the meanings of leadership and change and its changing role in contemporary business. Different models of leadership and change management skills, recent developments in leadership and change theories and understanding the organisation as a system.
facturing Futures
The module will first consider the development of manufacturing technology and will put the developments into social and industrial context. Consideration of industry and government studies to build a view of next generation manufacturing systems and processes. Develop a technology management plan which outlines how technology procurement and development will be carried out over a 5 – 10 year period.
Manufacturing Internationalisation
The module looks at the changes to the competitive landscape in the manufacturing industry from new industrial nations such as India and China. Providing theoretical and practical frameworks in which to analyse these changes and the potential strategies for UK-based manufacturing centred businesses.
Strategic Management of Technology and Manufacturing Innovation
The module draws from strategic management perspective with a view to understand the role of technology, engineering knowledge and manufacturing operations in creating competitive advantage. The module presents the latest conceptual thoughts and analytical frameworks for guiding strategic decision-making and implementation activities.
Year 2 Elective (4) Modules
New Product Development
The module presents the steps involved in a process of new product development (NPD) and how to fit new products into the existing company product portfolio. How to understand customer needs and developing product specifications, brainstorming and concept generation, and apply the NPD tools to the requirements of your organisation.
Strategic Finance
The module will demonstrate how to understand key financial statements, financial analysis, aspects of internal accounting systems and performance management, and how financial markets affect and reflect the performance and operations of manufacturing organisations.
Change Management in Manufacturing
The Change Management module approaches the subject in four ways. Re-designing work systems, introducing new technology, planning change and understanding ‘good practice’.
Operations Philosophies and Innovation
The module will introduce the subject of Operations Management theories and models. Present the key issues and concerns relating to Operations Management and explore a variety of philosophies, their lifecycles and impact on practice.
Designing for Manufacture and Assembly
The module introduces the notions of design for manufacture and assembly and presents the fundamentals of the technology. Industrial application is illustrated through team-based case studies.
Product Data Engineering
This module enables students to understand and apply general information modelling techniques, build a simple engineering information system and apply it to real engineering and design situations.
Sustainable Engineering
The module demonstrates how sustainability and environmental good practice has become a significant influence on manufacturing business. The module reviews models and methodologies for good practice in sustainable design and manufacturing and how a social-economic-environmental balance can be reached.
