Carolyn Ekins from PMS Diecasting and her daughter Jess, successfully completed the Race for Life Marathon in aid of Cancer Research UK at the weekend.
The event took place at Lee Valley Park in London on Sunday October 4th and saw over 3500 women compete in the first ever Women’s Marathon in the UK as well as half-marathon, 10k and 5k races.
“Completing the Marathon was a real challenge, probably one of the hardest things I’ve ever done in my life” said Carolyn. “My daughter and I couldn’t help but be inspired by the amazing women and volunteers we met on the day and by the support and encouragement we received not only at the event but also from friends, family and colleagues at PMS Diecasting. Donations from people at PMS, Laser Scanning and GoTools came in thick and fast and every single pound helped. Coupled with our fundraising cupcake sale at work and donations from friends and family we have now raised over £400.”
“I’d recommend anyone to take on a personal challenge and push themselves, you really never know what you are capable of until you try. We both worked really hard for this day but being a large lady I doubted my capability but being cheered on during the final run in to the finishing line and being presented a medal really boosted my personal confidence. It was the best last place of my entire life!”
