Herd of Sheffield

Thursday, June 23, 2016

We embrace supporting good causes here at PMS Diecasting and throughout the year enjoy participating in several fundraising events. This year, in addition to our various smaller fundraisers, we have decided to support ‘The Children’s Hospital Charity’.

Herd of Sheffield

This summer a herd of elephant sculptures will descend on Sheffield for the biggest public art event the city has ever seen! To show our support in 2016 we’ve sponsored one of the very large elephant sculptures which will be displayed in the city from July – October.

PMS Diecasting’s elephant is called ‘G’ for short. Her official name is Gullal Graffiti. Her talented artist is Sue Guthrie who has been painting our elephant in her studios in Birmingham. Sue is often commissioned for her art and last year she created a ‘jewellerey owl’ for the BIG HOOT in Birmingham which raised £8500 at auction raising money for Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

Sue has sent us through some sneak peeks of ‘G’ before her big reveal in July.

Watch this space for PMS events this summer with ‘G’ our elephant!

Sheffield Children’s Hospital is one of just four stand-alone children’s hospitals in the UK, and the only one in Yorkshire.

Every year, hundreds of thousands of children come from all over the UK and abroad for specialist treatment at the hospital. Thanks to pioneering clinicians, they are forging the way in paediatric care and are recognised as a centre of excellence in fields ranging from asthma and cystic fibrosis to cancer, gastroenterology and major trauma.

The Children’s Hospital Charity makes this extraordinary hospital even better, funding enhancements that are above and beyond the NHS provision. Thanks to the generosity of supporters, the charity can fund life-saving medical equipment, research into the prevention and cure of childhood illnesses and improvements to the environment.

PMS At Automechanika

Thursday, June 16, 2016

With over 12,000 visitors over three days, Automechanika Birmingham, held at the NEC, was a busy, vibrant automotive event where GLIDE Members prominently displayed their services on a specially designed, state-of-the-art stand.

PMS Diecasting, GoTools, Gripple Automation, Laser Scanning and Loadhog enjoyed discussing with visitors their group solutions within manufacturing.

Laser Scanning provide initial scanning and precision measuring to create designs and CAD files. The CAD files are used in creating precision tooling, either diecast or plastics tooling by GoTools. PMS Diecasting in turn can diecast quality parts or components using the precision tooling in their hundred, thousands or even millions. Gripple Automation, specialising in automatic assembly and expert in rotary table and pick & place systems, can build bespoke automation systems and Loadhog can manufacture and provide returnable transit packaging solutions which create greener, more efficient supply chains.

Frech W50 Zn-ST

Friday, June 3, 2016

Our expansion into diecasting hall 2 continues. PMS Diecasting has recently taken delivery of a new Frech hot chamber diecasting machine, the Frech W50 Zn-ST which will add to our capacity to produce quality zinc diecastings for our increasing customer base.

Completed Special Projects

Monday, April 25, 2016

As part of our plans to increase diecasting capacity we have now set up ‘Diecasting Hall 2’ to manufacture high value zinc diecastings which require various secondary operations, surface finish preparation and assembly. A new assembly room has been built to accommodate these processes and we have invested in new equipment to keep improving our productive output and quality. These are some of the projects that are now located in Hall 2.

Broaching Jig.
The increasing number of Range Rover park break rockers has necessitated the need to improve our manual broaching process. The new broaching jig designed and manufactured by Gripple Automation has improved the quality of the product whilst allowing the operations to be done twice as quickly as before.

Fadal CNC Machine.
A CNC machining centre was purchased to increase the speed of carrying out secondary operations on our ‘frames’ products. Precision holding fixtures designed and manufactured by GoTools allow the CNC process to carry out operations at significantly faster rates which will help PMS cope with the higher demand of products expected during 2016.

Rosler Vibratory Finishing & Drying.
Specialist equipment was installed to process high value items such as our ‘gear box housings’ and ‘frame’ products where finishing to a high standard is required without creating any surface blemishes on the parts. Using water and detergent to rinse the casting during the vibro process means the castings have to be dried very quickly to avaoid surface staining and the new installation does this as an almost in-line process ready for packing and despatch.

Cans for Romania

Friday, March 25, 2016

PMS Diecasting has been collecting aluminium cans for the ‘Rotherham Explorer Scout Unit’ to help towards raising money for their International Expedition to Brasov, Romania in 2017.

George Panter, who is participating in the expedition with the Rotherham Explorer Scouts, popped in to pick up the first batch of collected cans.

“The aim of this event is to experience life in another country, travel using public transport, explore the beauty of the Carpathian Mountains and engage with a group of children living in a Children’s home in Ghimbav. Before the event we will work on our team building skills and increase our physical abilities as the trek in the mountains will be quite a challenge. When in Romania we will visit Bucharest and stay in the Children’s home, learning more about life in Romania and will be visiting the nearby Gypsy village.

This is an ongoing project that Rotherham Explorer Scouts have participated in twice already and they have supplied washing machines and kitchen equipment for the Children’s home which makes it so much easier for the staff working there.” he told us.

First New Frech Casting

Monday, January 18, 2016

The long awaited arrival of our new Frech DAW 80 bore fruit with a first successful casting shot conducted by Simon Hardwick (in picture). The shot is an 8 impression product made with a state of the art tool from GoTools Ltd.

New Frech Daw 80F arrives

Monday, December 21, 2015

The ‘Project Springboard’ expansion is continuing forward at PMS Diecasting Ltd. with the recent arrival of a new Frech Daw 80F hot-chamber diecasting machine all the way from Stuttgart, Germany.

“The long awaited arrival of our new Frech 80 ton diecasting machine came on Thursday 17 Dec, after a 6 month wait after ordering. The machine came in 4 parts, the heaviest of which weighed in at a whopping 4400kg so a delicate bit of fork truck work was required to offload it. We all breathed a sigh of relief when it was back on terra firma and then it was skated into place.

The commissioning will take place in early Jan with the help of Frech engineers. And then it will be running 3 shifts to ensure reliable quality products are made! With the extra capacity available it will be a valuable addition to ensure we can keep up with our customers demands and represents a significant investment of over £300k.” said Richard Moore, Commercial Manager at PMS Diecasting.

Children in Need Fundraiser

Monday, November 16, 2015

PMS Diecasting and it’s employees raised £400.17 for Children in Need on Friday 13th November by running a merchandise table and cake raffle.

The Pudsey ears were especially popular with the men who embraced their inner teddy bears while raising money for a very worthwhile cause. Rob Jefferson raised money with two fundraising football scratch cards, and Kevin Perry, winner of the Pudsey bear cake raffle kindly donated the cake back and Gordon Panter bought it for £40 and it was shared among others.

THANK YOU to all who took part and supported this event. It was great to see people entering into the spirit of things and raising money for children’s projects in the UK.

Training at Frech.

Wednesday, November 4, 2015

Artan Sula, Luke Wade and Lee Grimley recently attended and successfully completed machine setting training at the Frech Technology Centre in Schorndorf, Bavaria in Germany.

The week long training course saw the PMS team (Hot Chamber Group) learn about the ins and outs of Frech machines, making good castings, die temperature controls, tool design, use of die-lube spray, fault finding, correct settings, system parameters and injection moulding.

PMS Diecasting currently has 10 Frech machines used on a daily basis and we regularly invest in training our employees to be the best they can be.

For Artan, Luke and Lee there was also time to enjoy great food and beer as well as the local culture and history. This included Volksfest, a visit to the Kesslehaus Brewery, a wine tasting evening at the Remstalkellerei Winery which included tasting 9 different bottles of wine as well as sausage and cheese platters and a visit to Schorndorf Castle.

Thanks to Luke Wade for the photos!
