Celebration Bowling Night

To celebrate a fantastic year we had a company bowling night at the Sheffield ski village on Friday 18th November. It was also Children in Need night and we raised £600 pounds with betting over the evening. A great night was had by all and hopefully we we have another night out in the New Year. Thanks to everyone for attending and making the night so enjoyable.

TS16949:2009 Automotive Standard

With ISO9001 and ISO14001 it seems logical for PMS to further develop our quality methods and gain the Automotive Standard TS16949:2009. This will enable PMS to grow the business effectively with further controls in place to ensure we meet our customers’ high demands for quality and service.

It will also assist PMS developing the Aluminium side of the business which will be more focused on automotive work than zinc.

PMS expects to gain accreditation in November 2012 whcih is our next annual assessment.

New 35,000 sq/ft Premises Acquired

PMS Diecasting is starting the process of planning for a move across the road - literally 20 yards away.

The new unit has more than enough space and electricity for our future development and expansion. We are working with Sheffield Hallam University to develop an award winning factory of the future which will further establish our position as the leading diecaster in the UK. The new factory will be sectioned into areas allowing us to work with Zinc, Aluminium and Magnesium in a controlled and effeicient manner. Also, our staff are eagerly working to put the canteen and recreational facilities plans together so they can relax whilst letting the robots do all the work !

Our formula for success is working, with a better layout and services offered in the new building it will mean that PMS Diecasting can offer an extremely competitive costing structure using various metal alloys.

CELL LEADERS & OPERATORS

PMS Diecasting is an innovative and very successful zinc die-caster, supplying quality, precision engineered metal products to many varied industries across the UK. We are 100% employee owned.In order to drive our production standards we wish to recruit a number of cell leaders and general operators. Our factory consists of 4 cells each containing several machines, working rotating 3 shifts (Mon-Fri). Cell Leaders will be machine operators but will have additional responsibilities includingDriving lean manufacturing – 5S, TPM, OEE, KPIsCoordinating lean manufacturing activities across 3 shifts Maintaining Housekeeping and H&S standardsStanding in for the Team leader to cover absenceKnowledge of diecasting or moulding preferredCandidates should have previous experience of high volume manufacturing, be computer literate and have the confidence to lead. Full training will be provided. The work hours are 3 shift rotating Mon-Fri with flexibility needed for overtime at weekends, holiday cover etc. The basic rate will be between £7.66 and £9.20/hour depending on capability, based on a 39 hour week.

A good start to the year

After a good start to 2010 the year ended with a lower than expected profits due to increase labour costs which were required to resolve some difficult projects. 2011 on the other hand has seen an increase in sales but more importantly much lower processing costs which have resulted in above target profits for the start of the new financial year. PMS is working very closely with customers and suppliers to improve productivity with re-design of some tooling and is looking for partners to work with PMS to engineer out tooling issues and share in the benefits.After a great start to the New Year we want to continue and improve our position going from strength to stregth.

3 More Machines Arrive

Frech Diecasting Machines Purchased

2 x Frech 20T Real Time Controlled

1 x Frech 50T Real Time Controlled

Each machine is being installed with an ABB 6 axis robotic cell to streamline production and dedicate machines to similar product groups. This will improve changeover flexibility, enhance quality and improve production rates.

The new capacity will be available in June with the robotic cells being complete in July.
