PMS Upskilling Employees

Friday, October 20, 2017

Matthew Silvester, Michael Smith and Lee Ambler from PMS Diecasting, recently attended and successfully completed machine training at the Frech Technology Centre in Schorndorf, near Stuttgart in Germany. These three employees were recently selected as the first diecasting operators to receive advanced training as part of the PMS investment in it’s employees to upskill all it’s machine operators to become ‘Diecasting Technicians’.

The week long training course saw the PMS team (Hot Chamber Group) learn about the ins and outs of Frech machines, making good castings, die temperature controls, tool design, use of die-lube spray, fault finding, correct settings, system parameters and injection moulding.

In addition to the advanced training, there was time to socialise at the famous ‘Cannstatter Volksfest’ in Stuttgart!

PMS Diecasting currently has 14 Frech machines used on a daily basis producing millions of quality zinc diecastings every month. Frech is the World’s leading producer of diecasting machines and technology for zinc, magnesium and aluminium.

PMS Launches App

Tuesday, August 29, 2017

Zinc diecasting manufacturer, PMS Diecasting, have recently launched an employee and customer app as part of their forward thinking digital strategy.

The ‘PMS App’ is another step closer to a paperless office allowing employees to send holiday requests through to their managers, anonymous suggestions to improve the workplace, to share news and photos directly to the media team while on the go and allows staff to collect rewards points towards an end of year raffle to win a weekend break in London or additional annual leave days. Not only that, when an employee registers themselves on the app they can access team photos of the whole work force which is helpful for new starters to familiarise themselves with people’s names, faces and what department they work in. In addition employees can check a staff calendar to see what is happening at PMS on a daily basis.

But the app is also of benefit to anyone in the manufacturing industry as it boasts an extensive ‘Manufacturing Expo’ calendar which lists major manufacturing events taking place throughout the UK which includes direct links to websites and further information directly from your smartphone. In addition potential customers will find the app helpful as it offers an ‘Ask an Engineer’ service to budding entrepreneurs who are taking that initial leap into manufacturing a product. PMS, with its plethora of technical design, quality, manufacturing and marketing expertise can certainly guide new businesses in the right direction.

To download the PMS App please go to www.pmsapp.co.uk or go directly to Google Play or Apple iTunes app store.

New Machines & Ice-creams

We’ve had a busy week at PMS Diecasting.

Firstly we took delivery of a new state-of-the-art hot chamber Frech diecasting machine (W80 Zn-Rc) which will enable us to continue our expansion and continue to increase our zinc diecasting output. We have also recently been looking at creating 6 new roles within our business for ‘Diecasting Technicians’. This will involve an hands-on intensive one-to-one training program to up-skill diecasting operators to become skilled technicians ensuring that going forward, PMS Diecasting will continue to produce high-quality castings efficiently and in a timely manner for our growing base of customers.

Friday 30th June was Employee Ownership day and thanks to GLIDE & PMS Diecasting, employees enjoyed a FREE ice-cream of their choice just as a small celebration of being a 100% employee owned company!

Aspiration Day!

Monday, January 23, 2017

The 3rd Aspiration Day at Sheffield Park Academy took place on Friday 20th January 2017. Luke Scott and Calvin Higginbottom were there to represent PMS Diecasting and talk to students about careers in engineering and roles within the manufacturing/diecasting industry.

‘Aspiration Day’ is about showing students the different roles/ jobs and courses that are available to them for when they leave school. Students from Year 7 through to sixth form were able to talk to several local manufacturing industries as well as representatives from universities, the British armed forces, financial services and charities.

Gripple was also in attendance with Ewa Smereka and John Caley not only offering their thoughts and insights into the manufacturing industry and the careers it offers, but were also able to answer many questions from the students on their Gripple products and what they do.

Associate Senior Leader for Pupil Experience at Sheffield Park Academy, Matthew Wainwright, was delighted with the turn out by local industry.

“Please may I take this opportunity to thank you all very much for attending our 3rd Aspiration Day at Sheffield Park Academy. Today has been the biggest and best yet. The initial feedback from students has been fantastic. I know that all of the students really appreciated the time and effort that you have given them today.

Aspiration Day is not a stand-alone event at Park we are continually looking for ways to broaden horizons and inspire young people to look at different employment sectors and roles within them. I look forward to working with you all in the future to develop this further.”

GLIDE Fitness Truck

Thursday, January 12, 2017

A mobile gym has recently been visiting PMS Diecasting to offer a 30 minute circuit training session to any employees who wish to participate. The sessions consist of several different exercise stations which include equipment like battle ropes, kettle bells, resistance bands and medicine/smash balls.

Each employee, after stretches and a warm up, spent a timed 3 minutes on each of several stations with a short cool down between each of the three circuits. The combination of exercises gave a full body workout. The mobile gym arrived in the back of a pick up truck and was set up in the car park.

Thank you to www.thefitnesstruck.co.uk and www.glidemembers.com for the sessions!

Alicja Rybaczuk ran the Plusnet Yorkshire Marathon on Sunday October 9th as Team PMS for ‘The Children’s Hospital Charity’. Completing 26.2 miles in just over 6 hours, for a first time marathon showed great determination and perseverance as well as commitment to an ongoing training schedule over several months. What a fantastic achievement!

Team PMS, employees of PMS Diecasting and friends and family, raised £752 through a raffle, bake sale and online fundraising for the charity. The cakes baked by Alicja, Diane and Carolyn, which included cheesecakes, fresh cream scones, Victoria sponge, and chocolate cake proved very popular as did the raffle to win as the main prize, a donated bottle of ‘Polish Oak Vodka’.
