AED Defibrillator Training
Monday, August 10, 2015
First aiders from PMS Diecasting, Go Tools and Laser Scanning recently undertook an extensive training program in the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) which was recently purchased by PMS Diecasting.
“An automated external defibrillator (AED) is a portable electronic device that automatically diagnoses the life-threatening cardiac arrhythmias of ventricular fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia in a patient, and is able to treat them through defibrillation, the application of electrical therapy which stops the arrhythmia, allowing the heart to re-establish an effective rhythm.”
Ian Cook, Commercial & Community Education Trainer with Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust, took the 9 trainees through theory and practical discussions and demonstrations, which involved hands-on group work. By the end of the training, all trainees were competent in CPR and administration of electrical therapy via the AED to potentially save lives.
The AED Defibrillator is a recent purchase by PMS Diecasting following a ‘Health and Safety’ committee meeting. Sean Starbuck, Quality Manager at PMS and with his background in St. John’s Ambulance was asked to look into purchasing the equipment.
“This will help develop and complement the training our qualified first aiders have undertaken.” said Sean. “You have just undergone extensive training and are deemed to be competent in the use of the equipment and are now potently life savers…”
Well done to all!
